Born October 14, 1937 in Lyndhurst, he was the son of the late Aubrey and Edna Thompson.
Richard was a hard worker and had been employed by Stanley Furniture for 35 years. He later retired from Hershey’s Chocolate in Stuarts Draft. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Thompson; brother, James K. Thompson and wife, Marie; daughter, Patricia Chandler and fiancé, Butch Coffman; grandchildren, Crystal and husband, Gary Bradley, Melissa Chandler, Jennifer Chandler and fiancé, Thomas Hughes and Junior Chandler; three loving great grandchildren, Kaitlyn Hughes, Payton Bradley, and Kelsey Via; two aunts, Pat Massie and Anna Beard; step-daughter, Judy Campbell; step-son, Robert Jones; step-grandchildren, Heather Jones and Stephanie Jones.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes with Pastor Billy Coffey officiating. Burial will follow in Augusta Memorial Park.
Active pallbearers will be Ronnie Beard, Charles Massie, Mike Coffey, Darrell Estes, Taylor Cash, Scott Drumheller, DJ Lockhart, Tyler Critzer, Doug Brooks and Randy Via.
Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Friday, March 27, 2015 at the funeral home.
