Born September 30, 1939, in Harrisonburg, VA, she was a daughter of the late Oliver Victor and Elsie Mae (Blessing) Estes.
After graduating from Wilson Memorial High School in 1957, she attended King’s Daughters School of Nursing where she became a LPN. Phyllis worked at King’s Daughters Community Hospital, Augusta Health, and retired from Home Health & Community Wellness. Mrs. Harris was a faithful and devoted member of Forest Chapel Church of the Brethren. As a church member, she taught Sunday School, was on the church board, nurture committee, and women’s ministry. She enjoyed playing softball for the church and was on the church bowling league. Phyllis was a District Conference Representative for the Church of the Brethren and was in the Church of the Brethren District Choir.
In addition to her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Joseph Morton Harris; and beloved grandson, Justin S. Harris.
Surviving is her son, Mark Eric Harris and wife, Christine of Crimora, VA; grandchildren, Stacy B. Harris of Duffield, VA, Anna M. Harris of Crimora, VA; sister, Dorethia Robinson and husband, Jerry; brother, Melton Estes and wife, Bonnie of Crimora, VA.
The family of Mrs. Harris would like to recognize the following special friends and their families, Warren and Ellen Arey, Barth and Sharon Estes, Karen Hanger, Cheri Robinson, Tyler Bryant, Taylor Robinson, Shayne Estes, Barry and Nancy Robinson, Brandon Estes, Laurie Robinson, Kayla Morris, Bobby Robinson, Robby Crissman, Donna Litzenberg, all her home health workers, nursing friends and church family.
Following a private graveside service, a memorial service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 11, 2024 at Forest Chapel Church of the Brethren with Pastor David Stewart officiating.
Friends may view and sign the guestbook for Mrs. Harris between 12:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes.
