Linda Anne Davis, age 81, of Waynesboro, Virginia passed away peacefully on November 12 surrounded by loving family. Born in Washington D.C. to Hal and Kay Woodside, she lived a life marked by dedication to family, friends, and community.
Linda attended the University of Mary Washington but left to enter the workforce. She worked several years in clerical positions with various federal agencies, including in the Pentagon with the Department of Army where she met her second husband, Harrell Davis. Later in life she served as a legal assistant for the Department of Justice in San Antonio, Texas where she received special commendation for her work on the Branch Davidian and Oklahoma City bombing cases. Her keen interest in law, forensics and all things true crime followed her throughout the remaining years of her life.
Whether volunteering in soup kitchens, shelters for battered women or most recently, for Friends of the Waynesboro Library, Linda found ways to fulfill her passions for literature and community service throughout her life. In addition to being a voracious reader, she also enjoyed playing cards. A serious bridge player throughout most of her adult life, Linda developed a reputation as a legendary card counter....a skill that made her a highly sought-after partner in the highly competitive card games that have become a family tradition during holidays and get-togethers.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents and sister Amanda. She is survived by her husband Harrell Davis; sons Russ, Taylor, Colin, and their spouses; five grandchildren; and her brother Hal Woodside.
A celebration of life will be held on December 28, 2024 at 2:00 pm at the Chapel of Summit Square Retirement Community in Waynesboro, VA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Friends of the Waynesboro Library in memory of Linda A. Davis.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes.
