Born July 9, 1939 in Franklin, WV, he was the son of the late Erlie Lee and Rhea Mae (Sponaugle) Simmons.
On October 24, 1986 he married the love of his life Jean Simmons, the two shared a beautiful marriage of 29 years where they never spent a day apart. Lee was a wonderful husband and the source of strength and inspiration to Jean. Lee was truly her best friend always and forever.
Lee was a member of Smith Creek Church of the Brethren, Franklin, WV and attended Lynside Mennonite Church, Lyndhurst, Va. Prior to his retirement, he was a faithful employee of the former E.I. DuPont where he worked as an electrician for over 30 years and had most recently been employed with Pantops Service Center in Charlottesville. In his spare time, he enjoyed restoring antique cars, shopping at flea markets and yard sales plus riding his Harley Motorcycles.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Naomi Brandli.
In addition to his cherished wife Jean, survivors include his children, Michelle Simmons of Waynesboro, Va and Donnie Jarrell of Free Union, Va; grandchildren, Cameron and Ashleigh Jarrell; brother, Jerry Simmons and wife, Evelyn of Abingdon, Va.; as well as a number of special nieces and nephews.
Jean would like to thank her family for standing by her side and being there every moment of this difficult journey. The family stayed with her in the hospital overnights because she would never leave her husband’s side, and surrounding him with the care, peace, and love that he deserved until the very end.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday July 16, 2016 at Lynside Mennonite Church, 648 Mt. Torrey Road, Lyndhurst, Va. with Pastor Gordon Miller and Pastor Thomas Hanks Officiating.
The family will receive friends following the service at Church.
