Born April 17, 1950 in Reading, PA, he was the son of the late Edwin and Charlotte Mary (Freck) Heil.
John attended Central Baptist Church, Waynesboro. He was a 25 year Veteran of the U.S. Army having served his country honorably during the Vietnam War and Persian Gulf War. He rose to the rank of Master Sergeant where his last assignment was escorting fallen soldiers to Dover Air Force Base. John was raised to Master Mason at Lee Lodge No. 209 A.F. & A.M. He was employed by the Waynesboro Police Department for 12 years where he worked as an investigator and taught at the police academy. Following his employment at the Police Department, he worked at Con-way Inc. as a Security Manager for 15 years until his retirement.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Janice Revonda Heil; daughter, Melissa Heil; sister, Rosemary Waltman.
John is survived by his sister, Christine Fleming and husband, Harold of Reading, PA; as well as eight nieces and nephews and several close friends.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at Central Baptist Church, 261 Bookerdale Road, Waynesboro with Pastor Tim Hall officiating. At his request, following the services his body will be cremated.
Masonic rites will be conducted at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, February 3, 2017 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 618 W. Main St. and the family will receive friends following from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
