Mr. Bridge was born on Feb. 2, 1924, in Augusta County and was a son of the late Junius “Junie” and Lonie (Lowery) Bridge. He worked for General Electric Co. and retired from Genicom after 34 years in 1990. Jesse was an active and devoted member of the Mountain View Mennonite Church where he served in many capacities. He was also an avid raccoon and bear hunter. Jesse served in the United States Army during World War II. Mr. Bridge was very involved in the community and served as President of the Sherando Lyndhurst Community Benefit fund with Wilson Fire Co. and Sherando Lyndhurst Ruritans.
Jesse is survived by four sisters, Dorothy Phillips of Aberdeen, N.C., Naomi Brooks-Maddox and husband, Preston, of Stuarts Draft, Mary Wright and husband, Donald, of Stuarts Draft, Martha Ramsey and husband, Charles, of Lyndhurst; one sister-in-law, Helen Bridge of Stuarts Draft and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Jesse was preceded in death by five brothers, Hershel, Leslie, Reginald, Joe, Benjamin and four sisters, Ruth Campbell Courtney, Rachel Coffey, Hazel and Thelma Bridge.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012, at 11 a.m. at the Mountain View Mennonite Church with the Revs. Earl Monroe, Stan Kauffman and Charles Ramsey officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes.
Active pallbearers for the service will be Wayne Campbell, Milton Barker, Stephen Bridge, Ronald Wright, Douglas Ramsey, Lynwood Bridge and John Brooks.
Honorary pallbearers for the service will be Jesse’s bear hunting buddies and close friends.
