Jean Marie Pope

Jean Marie Pope, 81, of the Stuarts Draft Retirement Community, passed away on Monday, September 26, 2011, at Augusta Health. Prior to moving to Stuarts Draft, Jean had been a long-time resident of Winchester, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Evelyn Hovermale; her husband, Norman E. Pope; and her son, Gregory Alan "Butch" Pope. Jean was a homemaker, an animal lover and a care giver to many in need. She was a devoted mother who loved to laugh and enjoyed family gatherings. She was a dear friend and neighbor. She is survived by her daughters, Barbara Sheffield and her husband, Randy, of Waynesboro, Virginia and Gayle Gregg and her husband, Robert, of Virginia Beach, Virginia; her daughter-in-law, Deborah Pope of Winchester; her grandchildren, Jonathan Sheffield of Los Altos, California, Jennifer Hunt and her husband, Justin, of Austin, Texas, Ian Gregg of Virginia Beach and Derek Pope of Auburn, Alabama; a sister, Shirley Bohrer of Berkley Springs, West Virginia; and loving sisters-in-law, Mary Ellen Pope of Winchester and Kitty Wilson of Bradenton, Florida. She leaves behind her special therapy dog, Sophie, who gave her loving inspiration throughout her three year battle with cancer. A Celebration of Life will be held from 7 until 9 p.m. Wednesday, September 28, 2011, at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, followed by interment at Shenandoah Memorial Park in Winchester, Virginia, 1 p.m. Saturday, October 1, 2011.
