Janette Foley Fortney

Born May 11, 1929 in New Hope, Va, she was a daughter of the late Howard Taft and Madge (Eutsler) Foley.

Janette was a graduate of New Hope High School. Prior to retirement, she was employed by Augusta Health for 37 years where she worked as a switchboard operator and later as a secretary for Home Health having retired in 2013. She was a faithful member of White Hill Church of the Brethren, Stuarts Draft. Janette’s greatest joy in life was spending time with her family. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend to many.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Duane “Ernie” Fortney, Jr.; son, Richard Duane “Rick” Fortney; daughter, Brenda Zimmerman; grandson, Logan Manor; granddaughter, Kelsey Hypes; and sister, Carolyn Foley Lantz.

Survivors include her two daughters, Wenda Fortney of Fishersville and Beverly F. Manor and husband, Joseph, of Staunton; grandchildren, Jesse Manor (Lindsay), Jared Williamson, Keith Almarode (Gina), Kevin Almarode (Marsha), Christina Bruce (Ed), Taylor White, Jaime Marshall (Jeremiah), and Jonathan Baska; a number of great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Following cremation, a celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 14, 2023 at White Hill Church of the Brethren, 749 Old White Hill Road, Stuarts Draft with Pastor Dave Chappell officiating.
