
Leona “Jackie” Wilkie Wimer, 73 of Waynesboro, passed away Saturday, May 16, 2015 at her residence. Born in Lyndhurst, up in Page Holler, on February 27, 1942, a daughter of the late Saylor F. Hatter and Pearl Coffey.
Jackie was a member of Waynesboro Church of Christ. She was known by everyone in the congregation for her hard work as a volunteer at church events and her love of handing out candy every Sunday. Jackie greatly enjoyed gardening, sewing, flowers, and bird watching. She also enjoyed visiting with her neighbor, Margaret. Most of all Jackie loved spending time with children of all ages.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Weldon E. Wimer and her two brothers, Saylor A. Hatter and Alton T. Hatter. Survivors include her three brothers, Jerry Hatter of Nellysford, Wilbert Hatter of Roseland, and Rolland Hatter of Wintergreen; three sisters, Sarah Urbanski of Waynesboro,Shirley Varney of Rockford, Illinois, and Charlene Lowery of Stuarts Draft; as well as numerous special nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Hospice of the Shenandoah, the staff at the HOPE Cancer Center, Carolyn Hatter, Mary and Robin Leonard, Bill and Sarah Hudson, Dolly McCutcheon and all the special children at Waynesboro Church of Christ for all the love, prayers, and care of Jackie.
A memorial service will be conducted at 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes with Minister Michael Jones officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Jackie’s memory to the Waynesboro Church of Christ-Missionary Fund, P.O. Box 895, Waynesboro, Virginia 22980.
