Obituary of Henry Clay Wingfield
Henry Clay Wingfield, 92, formerly of Waynesboro and most recently of Stuarts Draft went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 19, 2024 at his home. Born July 10, 1931 in Waynesboro, he was a son of the late William P. and Lottie (Hicks) Wingfield. On August 3, 1968 in Staunton he married Virginia Lee Manley. The two shared 55 years of wonderful marriage. Henry was a man of great faith and was a charter member of Waynesboro Free Methodist Church, Waynesboro. Over the years, he served faithfully in many capacities including church organist, Sunday School teacher, and Bible study leader. His greatest joy in life was sharing the Gospel with people and spreading the love of Jesus Christ, as well as reading the Bible. Prior to retirement, he was employed by DuPont for 36 years where he worked as a chemist. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, a loving father, grandfather and uncle. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Georgia, John, Edward, Doris, Mabel, Rea, Guy, Robert, Mary and Winfred. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Survivors include his wife, Virginia (Manley) Wingfield of Stuarts Draft; two sons, Mark Wingfield and wife, Melanie, of Grottoes and Kevin Wingfield and wife, Leslie, of Waynesboro; six grandchildren whom he loved, Atticus, Micah, Lily, Hannah, Jacob, and Thomas Wingfield; as well as numerous nieces and nephews that he loved. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, May 24, 2024 at Waynesboro Free Methodist Church, 600 Hopeman Parkway, Waynesboro. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 25, 2024 at the church with Pastor Scott Brodd and Pastor Mark Wingfield officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery, Waynesboro. Active pallbearers will be Atticus Wingfield, Micah Wingfield, Jacob Wingfield, Thomas Wingfield, Gary Wingfield, and David Wingfield.
