He was born October 8, 1930 to the late Clinton Fitzgerald and Florence and John Puckett.
Harvey took great pride in being the owner and operator of Fitzgerald Tire of Waynesboro for 50 years. He achieved all of his dreams. Having served his country proudly with the U.S. Army he was a part of the 24th Infantry Division in Korea with the Task Force Smith Army from November 26, 1948 until May 26, 1952. His list of accomplishments and awards while serving in the military where most notably receiving The Purple Heart Medal for his time in Korea, Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star Medal, American Presidential Unit Citation, Korean Service Medal with Bronze Star, United Nations Service Medal, Korean War Medal, National Defense Medal, Good Conduct Medal 2nd Award, Expert Badge 50 Cal Machine Gun, Marksmanship Badge M-1 Rifle and Sharp Shooter Badge 30 Cal Carbine. He enjoyed talking with his customers and friends, playing guitar, camping, fishing and most of all spending time with his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sons, Dale, Russ and Mike Fitzgerald; two daughters, Diane Painter and Tammy Witt; three brothers, Arthur, James, Gilbert Fitzgerald; one sister, Rosie Langley; a very special friend, Adrian Barber.
Survivors include his loving wife of 53 years, Shirley Fitzgerald; three sons, Gary and wife, Amy, Steve and wife, Cheryl, Tommy and wife, Dana; four daughters, Kim Campbell and husband, Tony, Vicky Lam, Lisa Phillips and husband, Marvin and Beth Fitzgerald all of Waynesboro; two daughter-in-laws, Jane and Kathy Fitzgerald; one brother, Morris Puckett and wife, Shirley; two sisters, Elizabeth Craig and Evelyn Milstead and husband, Harry; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; special aunt-Louise Puckett; as well as many close friends.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 618 W. Main St., with Pastor Louise Puckett officiating. Burial will follow in Augusta Memorial Park. Military honors will be provided graveside by the American Legion Post #340.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Friday, May 9, 2014 at the funeral home and other times at his residence.
Active pallbearers will be Tony Campbell, Jessie McCambridge, Ross Price, Brian Marks, Al Gross and Kenny Harris.
