Gene Nelson Cash, Jr.

Born October 1, 1961 in Waynesboro, he was the son of Gene Nelson Cash, Sr. and Frances (Courtney) Cash. On August 22, 1986 he married the love of his life and best friend, Jenny Lynne (Fisher) Cash. The two shared a blessed union of 27 years together.

Gene was a lifelong member of Fishersville Baptist Church. As an active church member, Gene served as a deacon, an usher and a counter and taught the youth of the church, Vacation Bible School and Sunday School at different periods of his life. He was a faithful employee of Wayne-Tex for 25 years until its closing and in recent years worked at Lowes. His sweet spirit and gentle ways will never be forgotten. He will be remembered by those who know him as a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, son-in-law and friend to many.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Kirk Douglas Cash; paternal grandparents, Samuel H. and Mary Lou (Fix) Cash; maternal grandparents, Robert Lee “Gus” Courtney, Genevea Courtney Henkel and Howard Henkel.

In addition to his loving parents and wife, survivors include his two daughters, Jeannette Cash and significant other, Paul Sprouse of Waynesboro and Jessica Cash and significant other, Cole Furry of Staunton; grandchildren, Ashton Daniel and Avery Grace Sprouse and Kinsley Carter Cabell Furry; mother-in-law, Vickie Wilt; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and in-laws.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at Fishersville Baptist Church, with Pastor Steve Parker and Rev. John Sullivan officiating. Burial will follow at Augusta Memorial Park.

Active pallbearers will be Nelson Carter, Percy “Buck” Fitzgerald, Randy Wheeler, Dale Clark, Bruce Perry, Warren Cash, Carl Statton and Bob Rubin.

Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Sprouse, Cole Furry, Heather Carter, Jere Fitzgerald, Connie Baber, Jeannie Goulet, Becky Harris, Tammie Wilkins, Debbie Rinker, Dereck Perry, Justin Cook, Sandy Cash and the Fishersville Baptist Youth.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at Fishersville Baptist Church.
