Gary Steven Marsh

He was born June 10, 1957, a son of the late Frank Marsh and Phyllis Sponaugle.

Gary was preceded in death by his mother, Phyllis Sponaugle; father, Frank Marsh; brother, Ronald Dale Marsh and his second father, Roscoe Sponaugle.

Survivors include his three children, Shaina Rhodes and husband David, Caleb Reed and wife Jennifer, Tiffany Wade; eight grandchildren, Wyatt, Madilyn, Marilyn, Wesley, Carleigh, Trevor, Shayleigh, S.J.; and a sister, Sandra Via and husband Tracy; two very special nieces, Carlin Dorrier and husband David, Kendall Via; a great nephew, Morgan Dorrier; and a great niece, Macie Dorrier.

Gary loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping in his early years. He loved watching the seasons change and especially loved the fall.

He was an avid history buff and enjoyed collecting firearms. He began his work career in his teens and became a talented mason and later worked as a fencing contractor. He had many friends throughout his life, two longtime friends, Jerry R. Coleman, whom he grew up with and Kevin Chisholm, who shared his love and enthusiasm for firearms, a very close brother-in-law, Tracy Via whom he thought of as a brother. Gary was very close to his sister, Sandra Via as well.

Gary was one of a kind who had the biggest heart. He was always willing to lend an ear, teach you anything he knew and make you laugh. He was loved by so many and will be greatly missed.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 27, 2023 at Rockgate Cemetery in Crozet with Danny Via officiating. Those wishing to attend the service may meet directly at the cemetery.

There will be no public viewing or visitation at the funeral home.
