Doris Marie Bird

Dodie was born in Birmingham, Alabama to Martha and James Dempsey on March 5, 1948.

She worked as a seamstress for Guy’s Sewing Company for many years and a Bob’s Upholstery for twelve years before.

In her retirement, she greatly enjoyed sewing and making jewelry for all her children, grandchildren, family and friends.

Dodie was preceded in death by her mother and father; three sisters, Gail Hudson, Laverne Thompson and Mary Lois Morris; and a granddaughter, Raven Brienne-Marie Garcia.

Dodie is survived by her daughter, Mary (Martie) Wells and her husband, Eddie; her son, James (Jamie) Garcia; her brother, James (Jimmy) Dempsey and his wife, Juanita; two sisters, Brenda Bonet and Shirley Morris; grandchildren, Jasmine Wells, Madison Wells, Nathan Garcia, Kylie Garcia, Elizabeth Qualls and Heaven Garcia; great-granddaughter, Kamari Wells; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and cherished friends.

Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 16, 2023 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes with Rev. Mr. David S. Kohut officiating.

The family wishes to give a special thank you to both the Augusta County Sheriff’s Department and J. Kent Hite with Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes for their care and comfort during this difficult time.
