He was born May 28, 1935 in Crimora, a son of the late Odie Theodore and Virgie Leona Scrogham Alford.
He was a United States Army Veteran, a member of Forest Chapel Church of the Brethren and retired from Fleming Foods.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a nephew, Stanley Roadcap.
Survivors include his wife, Dot McAllister Alford; daughters, Donna Pugh and husband, Greg of Crozet and Debbie Simmons and husband, Jeff of Staunton; sister, Betty Bosserman of Bridgewater; grandchildren, Ashleigh Brown and husband, Anthony and Joshua Pugh; great grandchildren, Peyton Brown and Reagan Brown; and a great niece, Nikki Roadcap.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at Forest Chapel Church of the Brethren with the Rev. Fred Mummert officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Greg Pugh, Joshua Pugh, Anthony Brown, Warren Wood, Jr., Jeff Simmons, Neil Baber, Mark Baber and Jim McAllister.
There will be no public viewing or visitation at the funeral home. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
