He was born in Waynesboro, Virginia to the late Charles Straub Root, Sr. and Bessie (Terrell) Root on April 18, 1940. He married Fannie Bryan on July 2, 1961 and the two shared a blessed marriage of 60 years.
Rooty was the retired owner of Rooty’s Road Service. He was a US Army Veteran, having served his country honorably. He was a member of The Salvation Army Church, Waynesboro and the Harley Davidson Association. Rooty was an avid dirt track race fan and one of his greatest joys was watching his grandsons race at the local dirt track. He was also a Redskins fan. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, PawPaw, uncle and friend to many. He loved everyone he came in contact with, especially the neighborhood kids, racetrack fans and all the B Street Bad Boys.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Shawn Harvey and Victor Rexrode.
Survivors include his wife Fannie Root; children, Sherri (Johnny) Ray, Tammy (David) Lamb, Sandi (Gary) Breeden, Penny Root, and Patty (JR) Fisher; and was “Pops” to a special son, Victor (Bobbie) Davis; son-in-law, Dave Harvey; grandchildren, Chip (Tina) Root, Becky (Mikey) May, DJ (Courtnie) Lamb, Vincent (Christie) Rexrode, Brandi Breeden, Gage Root, Duck (Carmen) Gregory, Dustin (Kelcie) Fisher, Faith Fisher; honorary granddaughter, Kaylee Davis; great grandchildren, CJ, JC, Bryan, Brayden, Brendan, Bryanna, Breyson, Paige, Dakota, Caden, Grayson, Kaylee, Allie, Axel, Mason and Dixon; sisters, MaryLu (Jeff) Davis and Skip (Wayne) Carter; and a number of nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his four legged companion, Dixie.
The family will receive friends on Friday, April 9, 2021 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday April 10, 2021 at 10:00am at the Salvation Army, 900 B St., Waynesboro with Lt. Rachel Pruitt and Capt. Jason Perdieu officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Riverview Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be DJ Lamb, Vincent Rexrode, Dustin Fisher, Duck Gregory, CJ Root and Mikey May.
