Bob was born in Fayetteville, Arkansas to the late John and Gladys Floyd on May 6, 1936. Growing up in Southern California, where the family relocated, he met and married Theoma Launder in 1956. Moving their family of three daughters to Virginia in 1968, Bob worked as an electrician in the heavy construction field, retiring in 2008 from traveling to nuclear plant outages, in and out of the state.
Joining the Air Force at a very young age - serving a short term -, Bob always loved horses and enjoyed riding bucking bron-cos in some California rodeos. Another great love of his was hunting and fishing.
In addition to his parents, Bob is preceded in death by his youngest daughter, Cheryl; two brothers and three sisters. He is survived by his wife of 60 years; daughters, Vicki Taylor and her husband, Mark and Sandi Belcher and her husband, Jim ; granddaughter, Teran Johnson; grandsons, Johnny Johnson and his wife, Mariah, Gabe Taylor, Jimmy and Joey Belcher, Andy Morris and his wife Emiley, Christopher Via, and his fiancé, Amanda Herold, and Scott Via and his wife, Tiffany; 14 great grandchildren; brothers, James Floyd and Patrick Hurd; an aunt, Lily McCoy, nieces, nephews, cousins and very special neighbors and friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Home with Rev. John Craft officiating.
The family of Bobby Joe Floyd wishes to extend our sincere thanks to all the nurses, doctors and staff at the Augusta Nursing and Rehab Center, and everyone with the Hospice Organization, for the wonderful love and care he received there. There could not have been a better place for him to be the last almost two years of his life.
