Born November 20, 1933 in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late Harold M. and Elizabeth (Rodgers) Freeman. On July 24, 1954, he married Shirley (Ross) Freeman. The two shared a blessed union of 61 years together.
Bill was a 1952 graduate of Waynesboro High School. In the same year, he was drafted by the U.S. Army where he served his country honorably during the Korean Conflict. During his working life he had been employed by and retired from: McQuay, General Electric, Genicom and Precision Fabricators. He was the President of First General Electric Union from 1965-1972, served as President and coach of Little League Baseball and President of the Waynesboro High School Booster Club. Together with his sons, he owned and operated Softball City Softball Complex for 18 years. He was a member of the Waynesboro Moose Lodge #1309, was a board member of the United Way, taught self-defense and officiated volleyball for the Waynesboro Recreation Department, enjoyed working in his flower gardens and helping those in need. Bill will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to many.
In addition to his loving wife, Shirley, survivors include his two sons, Jeffrey S. Freeman (Mary Rose Serafini) and Neil R. Freeman (Glenda) both of Waynesboro; sister, Lois Snyder of Waynesboro; grandchildren, Whitney R. Edwards (Derek) and William S. Freeman; as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 27, 2016 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 618 W. Main St., with Rev. Warren Grant officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Donald Rodgers, Bill Ross, Todd Ross, Danny McCormick, David Bell, Stewart Hall, Will Freeman and Derek Edwards.
Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Rodgers, Charlie Strickler, Bob Suddarth, Terry Brooks and George Stevens.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Friday, February 26, 2016 at the funeral home and other times at his residence.
