Annie C. Wood

Annie Carter Wood, 84, of Stuarts Draft, formerly of Dooms, passed away on Monday September 24, 2012 at the University of Virginia Medical Center.

Mrs. Wood was born on August 20, 1928 in Nelson County and was a daughter of the late Howard and Nannie (Puckett) Carter. Annie was a member of Smyrna Presbyterian Church and was a home maker. She loved cooking, singing gospel music and spending time with her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to many.

On April 10, 1948 she married Lertie Page Wood Sr., who preceded her in death on January 18, 2010.

Mrs. Wood is survived by two sons, Howard F. Wood and wife Linda of Stuarts Draft, Lertie P. Wood, Jr., and wife Patricia of Staunton; two daughters, Mary Allen and husband Carl of Waynesboro, Betsy Earley and husband Walter “Jim” of Stuarts Draft; thirteen grandchildren, three step-grandchildren; thirty-one great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Somers Carter, Lewis Carter, and Wilson Carter; and two sisters, Hazel Bryant and Christa Graves.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday September 27, 2012 at 2 PM at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes with Pastor Peter Grimm officiating. Burial will follow at Augusta Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6 until 8 pm at the funeral home. Friends may also visit the home of her daughter Betsy Earley in Stuarts Draft, or the home of her daughter, Mary Allen in Waynesboro.

Active pallbearers for the service will be Randall Atkins, Stevie Eppard, Mitch Wood, Howard Wood, Weston Rexrode and Paul Martin.
