Born on her maternal grandparents farm in Augusta County (Brookwood), VA, on April 17, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Arthur D. and Lorena D. (Wright) Bradley.
Ada was the beloved wife of Charles L. Henkel, Sr., who preceded her in death on March 24, 2017. They were married on January 13, 1951, in Elizabeth City, NC, and shared 66 years of marriage.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, and preceded in death by her seven siblings: Geneva Boyd, Mary Frances Early, Margie Raish, Arthur D. Bradley Jr., Weldon J. Bradley, Melvin R. Bradley, and Harry L. Bradley.
Ada is survived by her two sons and their spouses, Charles L. Henkel, Jr. (Kathryn) and Kevin D. Henkel (Bruce W. Bosselman), all of Waynesboro, VA. She was a loving grandmother to four grandchildren and their spouses: Kristy Wetmore (Todd), Erik Henkel (Megan), Brooke Lemieux (Matthew), and Corey Bosselman (Katelynn). She was also blessed with nine great-grandchildren: Chloe, Artemis, Jack, Belle, Meade, Oliver, Collins, Jackson, and Nora. Ada leaves behind several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
For 58 years, Ada owned and operated Ada’s Beauty Shop in Stuarts Draft, VA, where she was a beloved fixture of the community. She continued to work well into her mid-80s, even after moving to Waynesboro to live with her son and son-in-law as she cared for her husband during his declining health.
Ada was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Stuarts Draft, VA.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 29, 2025 at Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 618 W. Main St., Waynesboro.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, March 30, 2025 at Calvary United Methodist Church Cemetery, 2179 Stuarts Draft Highway, Stuarts Draft, with hospice Chaplain Stephen Henderson and Pastor Meredith Webb officiating. All who plan to attend are asked to meet directly at the cemetery.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to her caregivers, especially her devoted son-in-law Bruce, Fonda Medina, Cindy Dillard, and the entire staff of Hospice of the Shenandoah — including Jeannie, Loreal, Audrey, Ashley, Stephen, Dr. Heck, and the amazing Shenandoah House nurses — for their compassionate care.
