Timothy John Cornick, age 83, passed away on December 19, 2024. Timothy was born on June 5, 1941, in Detroit, Michigan to his parents, John and Rose Cornick. He grew up in Allen Park, Michigan, where he graduated from Allen Park High School before enlisting in the Army at the age of 18. Timothy honorably served his country until his discharge in 1962.
Timothy met the love of his life, Monica Cherie, after returning from his service, and they married in 1966. Their 58 years of marriage were filled with love, laughter, and countless memories. Together, they built a life filled with adventure, passion, and companionship.
Timothy earned his Master’s Degree in Business Education from Eastern Michigan University and spent many fulfilling years as a marketing teacher at Wayne Memorial High School. His students ran the Zebra Hut student store. Tim was named Michigan Marketing Teacher of the Year 1984 and was president of the Michigan Marketing Education Association. His dedication to his students was evident in the way he enriched their lives through his passion for learning for over 21 years.
Outside of teaching, Timothy had a wide array of interests that he was able to spend even more time enjoying after his retirement in 1999. He and Monica shared a love for 18th-century reenactment, where he became known for his skill in making powder horns and flintlock rifles. His enthusiasm for history and craftsmanship was matched only by his love for the outdoors. He enjoyed golfing, birdwatching on the patio, and reading books on a wide range of topics. Every Friday night, he and Monica would enjoy their tradition of steak night, always accompanied by a bottle of fine wine and a fire on the patio.
Timothy and Monica traveled the world, taking numerous cruises and exploring the beauty of each new destination including the wine and the golf. Their adventures together created memories that will be cherished forever.
He was the beloved husband of Monica Cherie Cornick, loving brother of the late Corinne Opiteck, brother-in-law to Patrick Murphy and Robert Opiteck and cherished uncle to Denise (David) Stacer, Michele Opiteck, Rob (Aleli) Opiteck, Cherie (Philippe) Ayala, Kristin Opiteck, Brent (Kristen) Murphy, Britt (Alex) Stefanowicz, and Hunter Travis. Timothy was also a dear great-uncle to six and a great-great-uncle to one.
Timothy’s warmth, kindness, and unwavering dedication to his family, friends, and students will be deeply missed. He leaves behind a legacy of love and joy that will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at 12:00 PM (memorial visitation at 11:00 AM), followed by a memorial luncheon at Harry J. Will Funeral Home, 34567 Michigan Ave, Wayne, MI 48184.
