Moreen Carol Burkholder was born on September 23, 1936 to her parents, Elmer and Leonora Mortzfield in Detroit, Michigan. Moreen peacefully passed away in her home that she loved on August 5, 2023 at the age 86.
She was the beloved wife of the late Robert (Bob) Burkholder. Loving mother of Mark Burkholder (Gayle Grindle) and Robin (late Greg) Thompson. Cherished grandmother of Garrison Thompson. Bonus grandmother to Joylynn Grindle and Franklin Purchis, bonus great-grandmother to Iivey Fuller, bonus great-great grandmother to Nadeline and Weston Rubin.
Moreen worked for General Motors until she had her first child, Mark. She then decided to take care of her children and be a stay at home mother. Once her children grew older she had a part time job at Meijer and then at JoAnn Fabrics. She enjoyed knitting and spent most nights doing counted cross stitch. She was part of the “Stitch & Bitch” club that she and a few other ladies created. They often crafted toys for the Humane Society, booties for NICU babies and would often knit gifts for anyone and everyone. Her late husband, Bob was the love of her life and she loved doing anything and everything with him. Moreen truly lived for her family and loved spending time with them around the holidays or family gatherings. She will be tremendously missed by all who knew and loved her.
A celebration of life luncheon will be held in her honor on September 30, 2023 from 2:00-6:00 p.m. at the American Legion Hall located at 9318 Newburgh Road, Livonia, MI 48150.
