Mel was the beloved husband of Geri Egloff (nee Fagan) for 62 wonderful years. He is preceded in death by his first daughter, Dena, and is survived by two daughters, Francine (Eddie) Hyde and Sara (John) Schafer. He cherished his role as grandpaw to his beloved fur-grandbabies, two golden retrievers and three Australian shepherds, who brought him immense joy. Mel also leaves behind close friends who became family over the years: Mary and Glen Mackie and their children, Maureen, Graham, and Monica, as well as Mike Brown, his wife Anita, and their daughter Anna. He is also remembered as a special dog-dad to Lucky, his adored Shih Tzu.
Preceded in death by his brother Walter (Margaret) Egloff, Mel grew up in Detroit, where he attended Cass Tech High School. He he met the love of his life, Geri through mutual friends. Their love story began with a secret elopement, and they remained inseparable throughout their lives.
A dedicated worker, Mel was drafted into the United States Army and later worked for Western Electric. He also made a name for himself as a skilled locksmith. Known for his generosity, Mel was always the first to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, embodying a spirit of kindness and selflessness.
In his leisure time, Mel enjoyed spending time at Higgins Lakes, tinkering with cars, and was a true handyman, capable of fixing nearly anything. Most importantly, he cherished the moments spent in the comfort of his home, surrounded by family and friends.
Mel will be tremendously missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him. In his memory, donations can be made to the Veterans or Kidney Foundation in honor of his life and legacy. A private memorial was held to celebrate his remarkable journey.
