Mabel Thompson, age 99, of Westland, Michigan passed away on Saturday, August 14, 2021. Mabel was born December 29, 1921 in Lapeer, Michigan to Francis and Dolly Gassman, the first of their four children. During WW II Mabel was a "Rosie the Riveter" working at the airplane manufacturing plant in Ypsilanti. She met her future husband prior to the war and married in Harrison, Michigan. Their married life was spent primarily in the Flint, Michigan area. Each year they would "snowbird" to Florida where they would enjoy Anna Marie Island and the Gulf side of Florida.
Mabel is survived by her daughter, Marilyn (Donald) Sabourin; granddaughters, Kathleen (Don) Raymor and Lisa (Doug) Wingrove; four great-grandchildren, Jessica Raymor, Ryan Raymor, Caden Wingrove, Cameron Wingrove, three great-great-grandchildren, Brystol Raymor, Rayla Raymor and Reyj Raymor; sister, Doris Barber; sister-in-law, Joann (Richard)Soyring. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Mabel was pre-deceased by her husband, Bernard; sisters, Alice Neifert; and brother, Clarence Gassman.
Committal services are scheduled for mid-September, time and date to be announced.
