In August 1962 John joined the United States Air Force, going onto serve in the Vietnam War earning the rank of Airman Second Class before he was honorably discharged in August 1966.
Following his service John began working for the Ford Motor Company. He spent over 38 years in the Paint Department of the Wayne Assembly plant before retiring in 2005.
John had a huge heart and was happiest when he was helping others. He served as the Michigan Endowment Chairman with Michigan Moose Assn. and was a Past State President for the state of Michigan. As an active member of Wayne Moose, he was awarded the Pilgrim Degree of Merit, the highest honor that can be bestowed upon a member of the Loyal Order of Moose. This Degree is conferred only in the House of God at Mooseheart, Illinois and comes as a reward for extraordinary service to the Order.
John’s dedication to service was not limited to his involvement with Moose Charities. He was active member of the Shriner’s Int’l -Moslem Shriners, supporting and assisting Shriner’s charities as well. As an active member of the Blue Lodge in Garden City. For his outstanding service he was honored with the 32nd degree Master Mason of the Valley of Detroit/Scottish Rites.
Above all else John loved his family. He was the loving husband of Miriam for over 14 years. The beloved father of Monica (Robert) Morrow, Tammie (Tony) Stojov and the late Rodney (Heidi) Tate. Proud grandpa of Abel and Madelyn Morrow, Sydney and Ryan Stojov and Zachary and Corey Tate. Dear brother of the late Richard (Dee) Tate and the late Dorothy (Chuck) Smith. Cherished uncle of Tim, Kim, Rick,Scott and Janet.
John was a kind and extraordinary man. His huge heart and caring demeanor will be greatly missed by all those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
John's family will receive friends on Friday November 21, 2014 from 3-6 pm with a Shriners Service and Air Force Honors at 6pm and on Saturday November 22, 2014 from 2-4 pm with a Moose Pilgram Service at 4 pm at the Harry J. Will Funeral Home, 34567 Michigan Ave. (east of Wayne Rd.) in Wayne.
