A former Ford Motor Company employee, he went on to work as a self-employed contractor for Signal Restorations for over 30 years. He was also the sole proprietor of Skip's Beer Garden, which was open to all, even four legged friends. An avid animal lover, he was known to take in the occasional stray, including his dog Odie and cat Smokey.
Doug was preceded in death by the love of his life Peggy. He was the cherished father of Crystal (Rob) Walker. Proud grandfather of Rylie and Jaris Savage. Dear brother of Lu Ann Morton and Dana (Shelly) Harmon. Beloved uncle of Amy (Craig) Camryn and Avery Broekhuizen, Jennifer (Jamie Sampson) Morton, Robert F. (Lindsay) Renee Mortonand Justin J. Harmon. He is also survived by his mother-in-law Elsie J. Mocaby sisters-in-law Debbie (Doug) Gilbert, and her children Douglas and Shannon Gilbert; Diana Mauer and her family Ashley and August Mauer; and Beth (John) Fogarty and her family, Chelsea Laudrek, Jacie Hernandez and Kali Fogarty. He is also survived by many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members and friends.
Doug's family will receive friends on Saturday November 15 and Sunday November 16, 2014 from 2-8 pm at the Harry J. Will Funeral Home, 35467 Michigan Ave. (east of Wayne Rd.) in Wayne.
His life will be celebrated with a funeral service at 11 am on Monday November 17, 2014 at the funeral home.
Douglas will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife Peggy at Glenwood Cemetery in Wayne, Michigan.
