Mary Ellen Minnaar

Mary Ellen Minnaar, age 68, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, June 17, 2020. She is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, David Minnaar; children Sara (Scott) Postma and Nick (Carissa) Minnaar; grandchildren Noah, Natalie, Erica, Robert, Francesca, Donavon, Mieke, Maizy, Kelvin, Katie, and Louisa; siblings Margaret (Jim) Becksfort, Robb Scholten, Tom (Sally) Scholten, and Melanie (A.C.) Scholten; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. 

With a heart always overflowing with love, Mary Ellen lived her life in service to others. From a nursing career, caring for those in need, to years of training others to do the same at Lansing Community College. From homemade encouragement cards and artfully crafted gifts for friends and family, to countless meals delivered to neighbors and friends. From hosting large 4th of July parties to decorating every inch of the house for Christmas cheer. From mountains of laundry to eagerly changing the dirty "Grammi pants" of the grandkids. From hope-giving letters to her fiancé in Vietnam, to a recent lucid moment thanking him for his years of faithful service to her. She showed us all that, "Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends." (John 15:13)

Visitation will be held from 6-8 pm on Monday, June 22, 2020 at Cook Memorial Chapel (East building), 4235 Prairie St. SW, Grandville, Michigan. Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, June 23, 2020 at Calvary Church, 707 East Beltline NE, Grand Rapids, with visitation from 10-10:45 am prior to service. 

In lieu of flowers and in memory of Mary Ellen, contributions may be made to Calvary Church or WCSG.
