James Barber (Barbenti) “Uncle Jim”, 85, of County Road 8, Montour Falls, went to the Big Farm in the Sky on June 16, 2014. Jim was born in Montour Falls to Joe and Mary Baldoni Barber (Barbenti) on January 26, 1929. He lived his entire life on the family farm on Skyline Drive and continued to work it until a few months before his passing. He was a member of St. Mary’s of the Lake Catholic Church, the Farm Bureau and the Schuyler County Historical Society. He will be remembered as a hard-working, honest person giving his time to those who stopped to visit and willing to listen to whatever they had to say. He was an avid reader, enjoyed listening to the radio and polka music. He was loved and respected by all and will be dearly missed.
Jim is survived by his sister, Anna Sgrecci of Watkins Glen, along with nieces Betty (Stanley) Landon, Mary Jane (Mike) Harnas, Patty (John) Sgrecci-Burton, nephews Henry (Susan) Sgrecci and Ernie Barber as well as several great-nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces and great-great nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, brothers James and Paul Sr., sister Viola and nephews Joseph and Paul Jr.
In accordance with Jim’s wishes, there will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary’s of the Lake Catholic Church, Watkins Glen, NY on Monday, June 23rd at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Schuyler County Office of the Aging, 323 Owego St., Montour Falls, NY 14865 or the Schuyler County Volunteer Ambulance Association, 909 South Decatur St., Watkins Glen, NY 14891.
