Bette was born in Waterbury, VT on September 21, 1926, the daughter of the late Harry and Gladys (Daley) Marden.
Bette retired from Akzo-Noble/International Salt Co. in Watkins Glen. In addition to her volunteer work at the Watkins Glen Library she was a reading buddy at the Watkins Glen Elementary School. She was an avid Watkins Glen sports fan and particularly fond of basketball.
She was a communicant of St. Mary’s of the Lake Church; she loved ceramics and cooking for her family. In addition to her parents and three brothers, Betty was predeceased by her husband, Samuel Schimizzi in 1970. Bette’s family wishes to extend a grateful appreciation to RSVP, Faulk Cancer Center, Dr. Paul Donnelly, Dr. Ben Saks, The Physical Therapy Department at Schuyler Hospital and Southern Tier Hospice for the wonderful services they provided.
Bette is survived by her children, Patti (Dan), Sam (Teresa), Margaret and Liz, grandchildren, Angela, Octavia, Sammy, Sarah, Frank, Mia, Anna, and Elizabeth (“Bit-bit”); special niece, Anna Jean DeDominicis; several nieces and nephews; and three “special” daughters, Karen Flahive, Lisa Phillips, and Susan Fazzary.
Friends and family may call from 5pm to 8pm on Tuesday, August 30th, 2011 at the Haughey-Wood Funeral Home, 119 Fifth St. Watkins Glen. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am on Wednesday, August 31st, 2011 at St. Mary’s of the Lake Church in Watkins Glen with Father Paul Bonacci celebrating. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Watkins Glen.
