Dominic S. Giambo, age 98, of Watkins Glen, NY passed away Friday, December 29th 2017 at Seneca View Skilled Nursing Facility in Montour Falls. Dominic was born on February 8, 1919 in Oswego, NY, the son of the late Salvatore and Antonina Giambo. Dominic was a first generation American. He graduated in June, 1941 from Oswego Normal School which is now SUNY at Oswego. He married Anna Onofri on December 27, 1941. Dominic served in World War II from 1942 until 1946, working as an aircraft machinist. He came to Watkins Glen with his wife and daughter in 1946. He and his wife later had three other children. Dominic was a teacher of Industrial Arts. While doing this, he also drove bus, taught adult education, and worked on maintenance in the summers. He retired in February, 1983 after 35 years of teaching. In the community he has belonged to the Elks Club for thirty-nine years and was named Elk of the Year in 1986-1987. He served on the Variance Board of the village and on the Board of Review for the county. Dominic also belonged to the American Legion in Watkins Glen. Dominic was proud to live and have worked in Watkins Glen and had chosen to remain here in his retirement. Dominic is survived by his children, Carol Taber of Horseheads, Robert Giambo of Oswego, David (Deborah) Giambo of Virginia, and Deborah (George) Kiteveles Liverpool; his grandchildren, Gina Taber, Dominic Giambo, Anthony Giambo, Thomas (Donna) Taber, Scott (Mary Ann) Taber, Kimberly (Greg) Covell, Eric (Jackie) Taber; his great grandchildren, Aidan Adams, Landyn Taber; his sister, Mayme Krawczyk and several Nieces and Nephews. In addition to his parents, Dominic was predeceased by his loving wife, Anna M. (Onofri) Giambo on September 5, 1986; his sister, Mary Lombard and his brothers, Anthony, Phil, Tommy and Joseph Giambo. Friends and family may call from 3pm to 6pm on Monday, January 8th, 2018 at the Haughey Wood Funeral Home, 119 5th St., Watkins Glen, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, January 9th at 11am at St. Mary’s of the Lake Church, 905 Decatur St., Watkins Glen.
