Kevin was born on May 15th, 1962, the son of J. Paul and Constance Cullinan Scully. Kevin spent his childhood years residing in South Portland with his family. He attended Holy Cross Grammar School and graduated from Cheverus High School, Portland, Maine in 1980. He was the first student in the history of the school to receive the Ignatius of Loyola award. He participated in many levels of CYO and served as state president in his senior year. Upon graduation he pursued a B.S. degree in Elementary Education graduating in 1984 from St. Joseph’s College, Windham, Maine. As an undergraduate, Kevin was appointed student representative to serve on the governing board of the college.
In 1988 Kevin married the love of his life, Patricia McCormick. He received a Master’s of Education in Educational Leadership from the University of Maine. Kevin served as a classroom teacher and assistant principal at All Saints School in Bangor. In 1994 he became principal of St. John Regional Catholic School in Winslow, retiring in 2006. Of all he did for Catholic schools, Kevin cared most about advocating for students. He was a member of Corpus Christi Parish and a 3rd Degree Knight of Columbus.
Of the many things he had accomplished in his life, Kevin found his greatest pleasure investing himself in the endeavors of his children, Brendan and Allison. Kevin never missed a home baseball game or swim meet throughout his children’s lives. Though his life was spent with his illness progressing, Kevin regularly voiced that he enjoyed each moment, thanks to the love and care of his close family.
Kevin was predeceased by his parents, J. Paul and Constance Scully; a brother P. Gregory Scully; and friends, Rev. Lawrence Conley and Sister Catherine Greene, RSM.
Surviving are his loving wife Patty, his son Brendan and his significant other Emily Bennett of Gorham and his daughter Allison of Bangor and her significant other Tim Carlisle of Newburgh; two sisters, Anne Newman and husband Richard of Brunswick and Constance Palys and husband, Frank, of South Portland; a brother, David Scully and his wife Kathleen, of Littleton, MA.; three godchildren Caitlin Scully Ciallella, Lauren Alexander and Thomas Alexander; and several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held Sunday, December 10 from 4 to 7 PM at Veilleux Funeral Home, 8 Elm Street in Waterville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John the Baptist Church, Monument Street in Winslow on Monday, December 11 at 11AM. Interment at St Francis Catholic Cemetery will be at a later date.
