On Monday, December 25, 2023, Karen “Dee” Hotham, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family after a brief and courageous battle against cancer at the age of 56. Dee was born in Waterville on December 30, 1966 to Daniel and Carol Nadeau. She graduated from Winslow High School in 1985 and went on to further her education at the University of Southern Maine. She worked for Cianbro Inc. and Valley Distributors before settling at Winslow High School for 25 years. At the time of her passing she was employed by T-Mobile.
Dee married Laurence Hotham in October of 1994 and planted roots for their family in Winslow, Maine. Together they had three children: Miranda, Tristan, and Landon. Her children were her pride and joy. She found happiness in watching her children grow into the young adults they are today. Dee was known for her love of sunshine and could be found relaxing outside with her family any chance she had. Dee enjoyed spending her summer days at her family camp on Great Pond, laying in the sand at Old Orchard Beach, or taking boat rides to Day’s Store. She was also fond of taking snowmobile rides with her boys, completing her daily Wordle, and going for nightly walks with their family dog Dozer. Dee’s greatest talent was her ability to turn any sentence or scenario into a song – her joy of singing will never be forgotten. Her kindness, thoughtfulness, and willingness to put others first were her most admired qualities, especially when it came to the care of her mother as she aged into her elder years.
She is survived by her husband Larry of 29 years; three children, Miranda (Adonay), Tristan (Olivia), Landon (Harley), mother Carol Nadeau; sisters Kelly Nadeau & Kimberly (Scott) Bumford, brother-in-law Tracy Hotham, nieces Meghan Wranosky and Kierra Bumford, nephew Brady Bumford and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. She especially cherished being a mom to her three children, her relationship with her niece Meghan (known fondly as Molls), and her memories made with her Connecticut cousins.
She is predeceased by her father Daniel Nadeau, her grandparents Alfred & Geraldine Michaud, Eariel & Fern Nadeau and her in-laws Had & Caroline Hotham.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses & doctors at the Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care and Maine General Hospital, as well as the caring and loving hospice staff, specifically Marcia and Kaylee.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 13th at 10:00am at Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church in Winslow, Maine. Following the service, the family invites you to join them at the VFW in Winslow, Maine at 11:30am for a reception to celebrate her life.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care.
