Waterville-Jeanette Therese Fortin Perro, 80, died at Park Residences in Waterville on January 9th, 2014. She was born in Waterville to Alexander and Irene (Turcotte) Fortin on May 26, 1933. Jeanette attended schools in Winslow and graduated from Winslow High in 1950. She married Parker Perro on July 25, 1953.
After graduating from high school, she worked for Dr. Harvey Bourassa, C.F. Hathaway Co. and finally Maine Central Railroad. She retired in 1995 after holding clerical positions in the railroad Freight Office, Stores, Engine House and Yard Office. She owned and operated Weddings by Jan on Bay Street in Winslow.
Jeanette was known for her skills at cooking, knitting, sewing, and ceramics. She could also be found volunteering at Maine General after she retired.
Jeanette was predeceased by her parents, husband Parker Perro in 1983, brother Norman Fortin, sister Dorothy Begin and her husband Cornelius (Buster) and a granddaughter.
She is survived by brothers Richard Fortin and his wife Geraldine of Wells, Lawrence Fortin and his wife Mary of Williston, VT, sisters Gloria and her husband Carl Audet of Meriden, CT, Rita and her husband Robert Plourde of Winslow, sister-in-law Gayle Fortin of Raymond, Elizabeth (Perro) Scribner and her husband Maurice of Clinton and Ann Winslow of Lee, MA. She is also survived by her ten children and spouses, Catherine and Geoffrey Reynolds of Fairfield, David and Lorraine Perro of Chester, Stephen and Pamela Perro of Winslow, Susan and Sid Watts of Longview, WA, Ronald and Charlene Perro of East Waterboro, Karen and James Begin of Fairfield, Claudia and Theodore LaBree of East Vassalboro, Eileen and James Norton of Port Charlotte, FL, Barbara and James Lambert of Presque Isle, and William and Lisa Perro of Winslow, 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend many thanks to the kind and compassionate people of Maine General and Inland Hospitals, Mount Saint Joseph, Hospice, and Park Residences for their help this past year.
At Jeanette’s request there will be no visiting hours. A mass of Christian burial will be held 11 AM, Friday, January 17, 2014 at St. John’s Catholic Church, Monument Street, Winslow. Burial will take place in the spring at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, Grove Street, Waterville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to St. John’s Catholic School, 15 South Garand Street, Winslow, ME 04901.
