Fred grew up in Athens Maine and graduated from Skowhegan High School in 1951. He was drafted into the Army for the Korean War in 1953. He was stationed in Munich Germany 1953-1955, Infantry Staff Sargent, and received special award for outstanding Trainer of K Company and for excellence in Marksmanship. After his military service Fred then worked as a Butcher and then went on to a 34 year career at Nissen Baking Company. Starting out at Nissen’s in Skowhegan as a salesperson, Fred was promoted to Branch Manager in Augusta, where he worked with his daughter Hazel for 25 years.
Fred and Mary retired in December of 1990 and moved to Palmetto Florida for the winters and then to their home on Iron Bound Pond (Wentworth Pond) in the summers. Fred and Mary moved back to Maine permanently in 2003. Fred enjoyed delivering mail to different group homes and offices of ESM. He loved talking with clients and employees. He loved to play golf and poker. In 1961 Fred and Mary built a camp on Iron Bound Pond where they spent most of their weekends and vacations. They enjoyed all activities there and spending time with family and friends. They created many fond memories with their children, siblings, nieces and nephews and countless friends. Fred loved visiting and spending time with his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and of recent great great grandchild.
Fred is survived by his wife of 67 years, Rosemary Margert York Huff; his sister Barbara Hart and husband Stewart from St Augustine Florida; his brother-in-law and best friend Richard York of Skowhegan Maine; Fred and Mary’s four daughters, Hazel Bouchard her partner Tim Cates and Hazel’s children Patrick Bouchard and Troy Bouchard and his wife Courtney, Tammy Weymouth and her children, Melissa Koval and husband Joe and son Ronnie Weymouth, Joan Morin and husband Tim and their children Eric Morin and wife Lindsey, Sarah Polk and husband Steve and Jean Gallant and husband John Daughter Heather and husband Brett, Son Mathew Gallant and wife Alisha. His love of family extended beyond his immediate family, he cherished his many nieces and nephews from Maine, Maryland, and California, who he loved very much. The love and Joy of his life was his great grandchildren Collin, William ,Ronnie, Kanyon, Hadleigh, Carter, Kinsey, Gwen, Bowie, Harper, Caleb, Luke, Emily, and Hayley and great great grandchild Willow
Fred is predeceased by his parents Gordon Huff who passed away at age 86, Hazel Lillian Huff age 33 and stepmother Margarett Huff age 74, his brother Clifton (Kip) Huff age 77 and sister Patricia Dumouchel age 74.
All are invited to a Military Service to be held Friday September 9 at 9:00am at Maine Veterans Cemetery, 143 Blue Star Highway in Augusta, at the Committal Shelter with Honor Guard. Immediately following there will be a Funeral service and luncheon at Le Club Calumet 334 West River Road Augusta, Maine.
