Waterville—Estelle P. Pleau, 80, went to God’s arms on Tuesday evening, April 8, 2014, at Mount St. Joseph Nursing Home. She passed peacefully with her special sister-in-law, godson and his wife, other family members and dear caretakers by her side. Diana Palmer, her very special caretaker and dear friend, was also by her side.
Ms. Pleau was born on August 13, 1933 in Winslow, Maine, the daughter of William and Lina (Morneau) Pleau. At a very young age, her birth mother passed away, and her Dad remarried. Leontine Pleau-a widow, childless and 12 years’ William’s senior-courageously entered a household with eight children ranging from three to thirteen and raised them as her own. Estelle remained with, and lovingly cared for her step-mother for many years until Leontine passed away.
Estelle was educated in Winslow schools. She retired in 1993 from Huhtamaki Packaging (formerly Keyes Fibre). Her career began there in 1955. Ms. Pleau was a communicant of St. John the Baptist church in Winslow.
Estelle will always be remembered for her kindness, warm smile and her unique infectious laugh. Family was very important to her. She was a loving, treasured Sister and Aunt to many. Family members will always remember the wonderful, humorous stories she would share of the antics of growing up with seven siblings. She loved animals, enjoyed reading, playing cards, country music and Beano with her friends. Lunch at the Village Restaurant in Waterville with friends or relatives was a special treat. Her beautifully manicured nails were the envy of many.
She was predeceased by her birth mother, Lina Pleau, father William Pleau, stepmother Leontine Pleau, brothers, Ferdinand (Fern) Pleau and Lionel (Babe) Pleau; sisters, Theresa Doyon, Carmen LaChance and Cecile Toulouse.
Ms. Pleau is survived by her brothers Wilfrid Pleau of New York, William (Bill) Pleau and his wife Pauline of Winslow; sister-in-law Eileen Pleau of Winslow; godson Gerard Toulouse and his wife Valerie of Fairfield as well as countless nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend its warmest thanks to all of the staff of Mount St. Joseph for their excellent care of Estelle.
For those who wish, donations may be made in Estelle’s memory to Waterville Humane Society, 100 Webb Road, Waterville, ME 04901 or a charity of one’s choice.
