Emilienne “Millie” Ouellette, 97, passed away peacefully in Waterville on July 2, 2014. She was born in Beauceville, Quebec, Canada on June 3, 1917, daughter of Philibert and Eva (Morin) Mathieu. She moved to Waterville in 1927 and graduated from Waterville High School in 1936.
Millie was employed by New England Telephone and Telegraph Company for 35 years. During WWII she transferred to Falmouth, MA and worked as a telephone operator at Camp Edwards. In 1944 she was naturalized as a U.S. Citizen in Barnstable, MA. She returned to Waterville and was working in the Telephone business office when she retired in 1982. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
Millie loved playing the piano and took lessons for many years after her retirement. She enjoyed taking long walks, yoga and many physical fitness activities. She was a member of the Muskie Center “Foxy” Ladies” line dancing group, which entertained the residents at many local nursing homes. She enjoyed baking desserts for her family and beating them at cribbage.
In 1949 she married Richard “Rip” Ouellette who passed in 1980. In 1987 she married Arthur Fournier who passed away in 1989.
She is survived by her daughter Deborah Jones and husband Gary of Smithfield; son Stephen Ouellette and wife Gwen Cole of Oakland; son Thomas Ouellette and wife Dawnette of Smithfield; grandson Michael Jones and wife Missy of Smithfield; granddaughters Emilienne and Lauren Ouellette of Oakland; and a great-grandson Dean Jones of Smithfield. She is also survived by stepdaughters Claire Wilson of Benton and Geneva Darr of Pittsburg, PA.
The family is very grateful to Sue Plisga, Kathy Quirion and all of the staff at Woodlands Memory Care of Waterville who took such wonderful care of Millie during the last eight years. Visitation for Millie will be held on Monday, July 7 from 6-8 PM at the Veilleux Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at 11Am at Notre Dame Catholic Church followed by committal prayers at St. Francis Cemetery.
