Cassy “Cass” Hirschfelt, 62, of Oakland, Maine died unexpectedly, Sunday, August 26, 2012. He was born in Akron, Ohio, son of Casper and Ortensia “Penny” Urdiales- Hirschfelt. He graduated from Thomas College with a Bachelor’s degree in business administration. Cass proudly served his country in the United States Army, 82nd Airborne, as a special forces Green Beret.
Cass always put family first as a loving husband, beloved father and as a special “Bumpa” to his five grandchildren whom he cherished. He was a confident and dear friend to many because of his innate wisdom and genuine concern and kindness for others. He loved to be surrounded by his family and friends at his home on Willey Point enjoying boating, fishing, and simply living in the moment. Cass was an avid golfer and shared his passion with his sons and friends.
Cass was a well-known and respected business icon in the Mid-Maine business community. He worked in the banking industry the majority of his life, most recently serving as the CEO of Franklin Somerset Federal Credit Unions. He was also a long time member of the Skowhegan Rotary Club and served on many boards such as the United Way, Youth and Family Services and Kennebec Valley Community College. Cass was a good man and a true humanitarian, always devoting his time to volunteer throughout his community to make the world a better place for people. Cass left a lot of footprints in the hearts and souls of many people who have been forever changed by his sweet presence on this earth.
Cass is survived by his wife Evelyn “Evie”, daughters; Cassie Winslow and husband Jason, Danielle Willett and husband Brian, and step son Anthony Veneziano. He is also survived by his sisters Linda Casenhiser and husband Mark, Tracy Mest and husband Robert and brother Paul Hirschfelt and wife Beth.
He is also survived by five grandchildren; Zachary and Emma Willett, Samuel and Nolan Winslow, and Anthony Veneziano Jr and his dear friends Joey and Deborah Karter, Anita and David Greenhalgh and Skip and Sara Sylvester.
Visitation will be held at the Veilleux Funeral Home from 6-8 PM on Friday August 31, 2012. A funeral service will be held on Saturday September 1st at the Pleasant Street United Methodist Church, at 11AM. A private family burial will be held at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta at a later date. Services are under the care and direction of the Veilleux Funeral Home.
