Thomas McCaffrey passed away peacefully at Garnet Health Center, Middletown, NY, on Sunday, July 7, 2024 at the age of 94. He was born in New Rochelle, NY on September 17, 1929 to Elizabeth (Clark) McCaffrey and Patrick McCaffrey. After raising his family in New Rochelle, he continued working for NYNEX/AT&T, until (and subsequent to) his retirement in 1985. He enjoyed his retirement living in Suffern, NY with his wife of 47 years, Agnes Baker McCaffrey. He spent most–if not all- of his leisure time on the golf course, and escaped the cold New York winters as a snowbird in Delray Beach, FL. He was a member of St. Boniface Church in Wesley Hills, N.Y.
Tom was predeceased by his daughters, Susan Powers and Lynn Frank, stepson, Norman Baker as well as his son-in-law, Nick Eremita, and brothers John, James and Eamon.
He is survived by his wife Agnes McCaffrey as well as daughter Sharon Eremita of Williamsburg, VA, son Stephen and his wife Virginia McCaffrey of Delray Beach, FL, stepson Mark and his wife Rosicel Baker of Maybrook, NY and son-in-law Bruce Powers of Brielle, NJ. He is also survived by his sister, Rosemary Roach of New Rochelle, NY. He leaves 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, and countless friends.
Forever the proud Irishman, his heritage was prominent in his personality. He always had a twinkle in his eye, a joke on his lips, and a booming chuckle at the ready. He enjoyed a good celebration be it a wedding, christening, birthday, or dare say, even a funeral - anything to get the family together. His strong will and determination remained with him up to his final hour. Those who knew him will always remember his love of family, devotion to church, and generosity. Those who loved him will never forget his “Well, hello there” greeting, his amazing bear hugs, or his selflessness.
It was Tom’s decision to celebrate his long life with a soft whisper. There will be no visitation or funeral in keeping with his explicit wishes. If you care to honor in his memory, please consider donating to the American Cancer Society (https://www.cancer.org/donate/memorial-giving.html) or Pathfinders for Autism (https://pathfindersforautism.org/donate/) in his name.
