Paul was born on an Island in 1937 to Helen and Paul Preuss. He was a deeply faithful member of the Roman Catholic Church.
He proudly served our nation in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Cubera from 1955 to 1959. In 1968, he and his beloved wife Cathy, left Manhattan for the deep woods of Blooming Grove to the astonishment of all who knew him. After raising a family, he retired from Con Edison after 38 years in 1997.
Paul was a talented craftsman and woodworker. He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, skeet, and boating. He was a member of the Monroe-Chester Sportsman Club. He enjoyed traveling. He was a longtime member of the Tomahawk Lake Association. He lived a life filled with compassion and humor. He was the most amazing Pop Pop ever. He filled our hearts. Paul leaves us with a legacy of love.
He is survived by his children and their spouses: Dawn and Brian Creeden, Linda and Paul Fischer, and P.J. and Heather Kilpatrick-Preuss; his cherished grandchildren: Zachary and Joshua Creeden, Morgan and Caleb Fischer, and Avery and Cassidy Preuss. He is also survived by his adored sister, Elizabeth Lerchen; niece Diane Vronick, and nephews Gary Lerchen and Jimmy Dingwall. He also leaves his faithful dog, Penny.
He was preceded to Heaven by his parents, Helen and Paul Preuss; stepfather, James Schetting; his true love and wife of 38 years, Catherine Preuss; his eldest sister, Chrystal Dingwall; his niece, Patty Dingwall, and his granddaughter, Grace Fischer.
Visitation is scheduled for 4 to 8 p.m., Friday April 20th at David T. Ferguson Funeral Home, 20 North Street, Washingtonville, NY. There will be a funeral Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 21st at St. Columba Church, Chester NY with burial to follow at St. Columba Cemetery.
