

Born in Brooklyn N.Y. on Aug. 14, 1922, he was preceded in death by his wife, Amelia, and son, Joseph. During WWII, he flew 55 missions piloting a B-26 bomber in missions over Germany, Italy and France. He was awarded the Purple Heart after sustaining injuries when his plane was struck by anti-aircraft fire. He also received 13 Air Medals, the Croix de Guerre, European Theater Ribbon (with 5 stars), American Defense Ribbon, Victory Medal, two Unit Distinguished Service Awards, and was inducted into the French Legion of Honor. He later retired after 19 years of service as a N.Y.C. firefighter and went on to a career in hospital administration.
He is survived by his son, Frank Limberg and his wife, Judith, of Lynn Haven; son Thomas Limberg and wife Ann of Mahwah, NJ.; daughter-in-law Barbara Limberg; grandchildren Patrick Limberg and wife Tami; Allison Berenguer and husband Mario; Joseph R. Limberg; Amy Gardner and husband Tim; Beth Egan and husband Patrick; Meg Wernau and husband Jason; and Kerry Limberg. In addition, he is survived by 13 great grand-children.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:30 am on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at St. Mary’s Church in Washingtonville burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery also in Washingtonville. A reception will be held following burial at Vinum Café at the Brotherhood Winery, Washingtonville, NY.
