Jerry Murphy

Jerry was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Bridie (nee Canning) of 55 years. He is survived by his beloved children Theresa Ann and son in law Bobby, Gerard Thomas and daughter in law Eileen, cherished grandchildren MaryKate, Reagan and Owen, his brother James as well as several nieces and nephews and cousins.

Jerry was born on June 2, 1939 to James and Mary (Connelly) Murphy in County Monaghan, Ireland. Jerry was the youngest of five siblings- Thomas, John, Maureen and James.

Jerry immigrated with family to New York, where he went to school and studied to be an electrician. In 1960 Jerry met Bridie while at social in New York. They were married in 1964 in County Longford, Ireland.

Jerry loved Gaelic Football and played in New York for County Longford, where teammates ended up being lifelong friends. In 1993 Jerry retired and returned to his native Ireland, where he and his wife settled into a good life with family and friends in Belturbet, Cavan.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 27, 2020 from 4-8pm at the David T. Ferguson Funeral Home, 20 North St., Washingtonville, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 28th at St. Mary’s Church in Washingtonville, NY. Private Cremation Services will follow.
