Dorothy Emma Doughty of New Windsor, NY passed away peacefully at her home on December 19, 2014 at the age of 90. The daughter of Major Sherman H. and Edna C. Doughty, she was born August 5, 1924 in Brooklyn, NY.
Dot was married to (late) Chester V. Majewski and together they raised their four children. She later married (late) Jerald P. Bethel and with him co-owned and operated The Tinian Tavern in Milton. Dottie worked as a sales clerk for WT Grants, Zayres, Ames and K-Mart. She said working was her therapy and enjoyed it until her retirement at the age of 84. Dorothy was a long time parishioner of St. Mary’s Church in Washingtonville and a member of the Catholic Daughters Court St. Ann, Mother of Mary #2419.
Dorothy always had a smile on her face and made friends everywhere she went. If you walked into a room of strangers, she was the person you would want to sit next to. She enjoyed making people laugh and always had a funny or witty story to tell. She mastered crossword puzzles and loved to read. Her strength and perseverance was an inspiration to many. She loved bringing family together and enjoyed hosting family gatherings.
She will be missed by many, especially her children, Deacon Brian R. Majewski and his wife Susan of Manassas, VA,; Joanne M. Majewski and her partner Bill Sullivan of Newburgh; her sister, Carole M. Doughty of Newburgh; her grandchildren, Keith Thistle, Brian V. Majewski, Joshua (Simone) Majewski, Melanie, Christina (Eric)Broom, James Majewski, Janice E. Majewski, Brian F. Majewski, Jason (Loni) Werba, Todd (Christina) Werba, Michael (Aleksandra) Werba, Lindsay (Katie) Werba; her eight great grandchildren Audrey, Grace, Janice, Sophie, Raegan, Alison, Caitlin and Daniel; daughter-in-law Ann L. Majewski of Manchester, Ct; son-in-law Michael C. Werba of Milton; sisters-in-law Supinah Doughty of Blooming Grove, Theresa Rompre of Bristol, CT; many nieces and nephews, countless number of friends and her dog Kahlua.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy is predeceased and welcomed to Heaven by her children Robert W. Majewski and Janice E. Werba; grandson Brendan R. Majewski; siblings Virginia R. Musolino, Ralph S. Doughty, Wallace W. Doughty, Donald R. Doughty and Barbara J. Soon.
The family thanks her caregivers Sandy, Doris, Fe and Karolyn, who kept her comfortable in her final days.
Dorothy was generous to many charitable organizations. In lieu of flowers, consider a donation in her memory to St. Mary’s Church, 42 Goshen Ave, Washingtonville, NY 10992.
The family will receive friends on Monday, December 22, 2014 from 3-5 pm and 7-9 pm, with a prayer vigil at 8:00 PM. at the David T. Ferguson Funeral Home, 20 North St Washingtonville, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at 10:00 am at St. Mary’s Church in Washingtonville, Fr Mauer will be officiating and will be assisted by her son, Rev. Mr. Brian R. Majewski.
