On Sunday, May 6, 2012, died peacefully at home of cancer. Husband of Phyllis M. Knowles; stepfather of Mark and Kevin Knowles; devoted grandfather of Shane, Dawn, Brian and Michael Knowles. He is also survived by his brother, James Myrick Lowerre; three nephews and two nieces. Guests may call at Joseph Gawler's, 5130 Wisconsin Ave., NW, Washington, DC from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 10. A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 11 at 1 p.m. at the Church of the Ascension, 2055 Summit Ave., Gaithersburg, MD 20877. Burial will be at the family plot in Cortland, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Johns Hopkins Cancer Center, P.O. Box 17046, Baltimore, MD 21297-0251.
