Was born on September 17, 1923 and died peacefully at his home on November 28, 2017. Mr. Johnson was born in Washington, DC to Walter Morgan Johnson Sr. and Florence Gibbs Johnson.
Mr. Johnson is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Sally Lane Johnson; his three daughters, Sally Johnson Fogarty, Bailey Johnson Scheurer, and Elizabeth Johnson Egloff; his sons-in-law, John Scheurer and Scott Egloff; his grandchildren, Robert Hicks Fogarty Jr. (Susannah), Sally Lane Fogarty Strand (Peter), Richard Gibbs Fogarty (Margaret), Bailey Elizabeth Fogarty, Annie Scheurer Casertano (Tyler), Allison Miller Scheurer, and Walter Morgan Egloff; and his four great grandchildren.
Mr. Johnson graduated from Landon School in 1942, attended Lehigh University, and graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1947. He served in the United States Navy as an Ensign on both the USS Wyoming and USS Mississippi and was discharged in 1946.
Mr. Johnson is predeceased by his brother, Richard Gibbs Johnson.
Mr. Johnson started his career in real estate in 1947 with the Smithy Company and in 1948 went to work for the Frank S. Phillips Company. In 1956 he and his close friends, Mr. Griffin B. Holland and Mr. Joseph Clifford started District-Maryland Realty, Inc. which was a premiere residential real estate company in the Washington Metropolitan Area for many years.
Mr. Johnson was a lifelong member of Columbia Country Club, and a member of Chevy Chase Club and Rehoboth Beach Country Club. He was an usher for many years at All Saints Church in Chevy Chase, Maryland.
Mr. Johnson was an avid athlete, playing golf and tennis, and was always on the sidelines of his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events. He loved spending his summers at his home in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware surrounded by his devoted family, friends, and dachshunds. He will always be missed and remembered as the epitome of a gentleman, a kind and thoughtful friend, and the most loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
