Roselyn Marie Hopkins, of Gaithersburg, MD, died on April 15, 2023 after living 94 years of an extraordinary, energetic life that included raising a family, traveling the world, being an accomplished cook, playing tennis, and camping well into her 70s. With an avid interest in historic preservation and restoration, she was also a founding member in 1971 of the Cabin John chapter of Questers, an international organization she served in many capacities until her death; one of the group’s signature moments was helping fund and commission the details for restoration of the C&O Canal locks outside Washington D.C.
Roz was a remarkable gardener who shared her flower-arranging skills by teaching classes and serving on the Altar Guild at Holy Trinity Lutheran church in Lynchburg, Virginia for many years, and she was stalwart in improving and beautifying grounds at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Bethesda for decades. She is predeceased by her husband of 68 years, Frank Hopkins, and is survived by her four children Stephen Hopkins (Lynda); David Hopkins (Sybil); Richard Hopkins (Lynn); and Barbara Hopkins de Jong — as well as 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 22, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Bethesda, Maryland at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to So Others May Eat or Brookside Gardens.
