In Loving Memory of Patrick “Sam” Geary Ahern
With deep sorrow and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Patrick “Sam” Geary Ahern, on May 12, 2023, a beloved child, sibling and friend. Sam brought warmth and laughter, caring and kindness into the lives of all who knew them.
Sam was a person of compassion and empathy who possessed a rare ability to connect with others on a deep level, offering unwavering support whenever it was needed. Sam’s kind and gentle nature made them a trusted confidant to family and friends, who relied on their unconditional love.
Maggie, 12, made Patrick a big brother. She remembers how Patrick always made her laugh and gave her piggyback rides. Gracie, 10, cherishes the attention Sam gave her when she had bad days at school and how she could always count on Sam to give her a great big hug. And Willa, 8, has already named the new family plant, a peace lily, Sam, Jr.
Sam had a vibrant spirit and an infectious zest for life and possessed an insatiable wanderlust, which led to countless adventures. From traveling up and down the east coast to find new music to pursuing a passion for live music photography to jetting across the country in search of a new tattoo, Sam enjoyed exploring new places and having new experiences.
Sam will forever be remembered as a beacon of light in the lives of those who were fortunate enough to know them. Pat’s ability to develop extraordinary relationships and genuine compassion will remain with us forever.
A grieving family is left behind, including mother and stepfather Christie and Tim Blanchard, father Peter Ahearn, siblings Maggie, Gracie and Willa, grandparents Bill and Judy Finney and Jeannie Ahearn, a multitude of aunts, uncles and cousins, and countless friends and colleagues who have been deeply impacted by Sam’s friendship and love.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Patrick “Sam” Geary Ahern will be held on May 18, 2023, at Joseph Gawler’s Funeral Home at 3:00 pm, with a reception to follow at Comet Ping Pong at 5:00 pm, a place filled with so many friends and wonderful colleagues. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to Human Rights Campaign (https://hrc.im/PatrickSamAhern) or SMYAL (https://app.etapestry.com/onlineforms/SMYAL/PatrickSamAhern.html).
