Pamela Mailloux McDermott died on November 14, 2014 at the age of 66. She was born on October 11, 1948 to Meredith “Maxine” and Bernard Mailloux in Fowler, Indiana. She graduated from Fowler High School and Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana. She married Mark T. McDermott on February 20, 1971 and together they raised two incredible children, Jordan and Drew. Jordan currently resides in Kensington, Maryland and Drew lives in Madison, Wisconsin.
Pamela found great joy in teaching middle school English for over 30 years, and retired from Thomas W. Pyle in 2012. Her passion for teaching went beyond the classroom and was extended to her work for adult literacy programs. She combined her love for adventure and children by volunteering as editor of the popular local resource Going Places with Children. She worked diligently alongside her husband organizing seminars and workshops for the organization Families for Private Adoption.
A fitness enthusiast, Pamela competed in marathons and enjoyed riding her bicycle throughout DC, introducing friends and relatives to the joys of exploring the area on bikes. She was an avid devotee of the arts, visiting museums often and attending local theater for many years. She was a talented writer and voracious reader, cherishing her book clubs. Pamela also loved to travel and took many memorable trips with her family and her friends.
Also surviving are her three sisters, Susan Scheurer (Bill), East Lansing, Michigan; Michele Haggerty (Patrick), Pinehurst, North Carolina; Lisa Fohl (Nick), Indianapolis, Indiana; and her brother, Steve Mailloux, Indianapolis, Indiana, along with many beloved nieces and nephews.
