Peacefully, on July 22, 2015. A 41-year resident of Bethesda, Maryland, beloved wife of Jack H. Gardner for 60 years, devoted mother of John S. Gardner. Predeceased by her parents, George and Mary Medwick; her brothers Peter, John, George, and Joseph and her sisters Olga, Justine, Mary, Anne, and Helen. Born on January 7, 1927 in Mahanoy City, Pennsylvania, she was a nursing graduate of the University of Pennsylvania; a flight nurse in the United States Air Force and a nurse in the Air Force Reserves; a nurse at hospitals in Philadelphia, Oklahoma, and New York; a loving wife; a devoted Catholic; and a wonderful mother. She loved life, was an active volunteer in school and for several charitable organizations, enjoyed tennis, and was a superb cook, a gracious host, and a good friend to many. She bore the suffering of many ailments in recent years with great grace, determination, and faith.
Family will receive friends at the Church of the Little Flower, 5607 Massachusetts Avenue, Bethesda, MD 20816 (http://www.lfparish.org) on July 29, 2015, at 11:00 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial which will begin promptly at 12:00. Internment will be at Quantico National Cemetery (http://www.cem.va.gov/cems/nchp/quantico.asp) on Thursday, July 30, 2015 at 1:00.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and caregivers who did so much to make her last years as comfortable and happy as possible. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project (http://www.woundedwarriorproject.org).
She now rests with God.
