Marilyn was born June 15, 1934 in Fredericksburg, Virginia. to the late Benjamin Douglas Tubman and Marguerite Berry Tubman. She was reared on Dahlgren Naval Base. She attended boarding school at Holy Cross Academy in Washington, DC. After graduation she began her 37-year career with C&P Telephone Co. (Bell Atlantic). She retired as a Service Manager at the age of 57. She made many lifelong friends during her telephone company years. She was a long-time member of Our Lady of Lourdes in Bethesda. She was a volunteer at Bethesda Cares. Her greatest joy was her family.
Marilyn was predeceased by her sister Marguerite Tubman Hartter, her husband William S. Hartter and nephew Benjamin V. (Benjie) Hartter.
She is survived by her devoted sister Anne Tubman Gardiner, brother-in-law Donald G. Gardiner; Niece Kimberly Anne Gardiner Bowling, her husband C. Lee Bowling, Jr (nephew) and her great-nephews (“her boys”) Tyler Benjamin Tubman Bowling and Grayson Lee Hyland Bowling.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place with interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Funeral services will be private.
