Margaret Florence Burris passed away on August 27, 2023 in Roseville, CA. She lived a long, wonderful life of health and happiness. Margaret was born in Cleveland, Ohio to Frank and Mary Piskura. At the age of 19 Margaret met the love of her life, Philip H. Burris. Margaret and Phil married soon thereafter and spent most of their married life in Alexandria, VA where they raised their five children.
Margaret was a homemaker, loving mother as well as an avid gardener and bridge player and a skilled quilter. Margaret also was a frequent volunteer at her Church and for the Girl Scouts. Margaret moved to Lincoln, CA, to be close to her youngest grandchildren and continued to garden and became a highly competitive duplicate bridge player. Margaret made award winning from scratch fruit pies and continued to be active in her Church. Family was always at the center of Margaret’s universe.
Margaret is survived by four of her children, Philip Burris (Reena), Thomas Burris, Carolyn Handlon and Cynthia Brooks (Tilden), her four grandchildren and one great grandchild. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband Phil, daughter Ellen Vasvary and son in law James Handlon.
A memorial service will be held at the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Washington, DC at 12 noon on September 7, 2023, followed by burial at Rock Creek Cemetery.
